We regret to announce the sudden passing of Donald ‘Bruchie’ Phillips on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in Toronto.
Born in Bolsward, Holland, Donnie, also known as Bruchie, was the son of the late Hugh and Fredricka (Keesen) Phillips of East Broadway, Sydney.
Donnie lived in Toronto for many years where he was employed as a mechanic. Donnie enjoyed his get-together with friends and especially, his cousin, Lloyd Andrews.
Donnie is survived by his daughter, Myrna of Sydney; two grandsons, Devin and Kodey and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa, all of Sydney. He is also survived by his five brothers, Junior (Patricia Martin), Wendell (Bip), Melvyn (Tonya), Johnny and Glenn, all of Sydney; six sisters, Weinie (Dave Robinson) Burke of Moncton, Linda (Greg) Murphy, Honey (Danny) MacNeil, both of Hamilton, Patsy (Alan) Moss, Bunny (Phillips) MacLean and Lyda (Bobby) Young, all of Sydney; sisters-in-law, Mary and Margie; aunts, Jo of Belgium, Clara Gale of Sydney, and Olga, Myrna and Thelma, all from Ontario; and uncle, Elmer of Halifax. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his two brothers, Harry and Larry and a sister, Brenda.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Donald ‘Bruchie’ Phillips will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Following the service, light refreshments will be served in the reception area. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations in memory of Donnie may be made to Cancer Care Patient Fund, c/o Tom MacNeil, social worker, Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
