LYSTER – Jean Isobel, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. She was born on April 22, 1924 at Abbey, SK. She was one of the eight children of Charles and Jane Lines and has resided at Cabri since 1943. In 1946 she married Tom Lyster and they raised two sons, Stuart of Boston, MA and Dennis of Saskatoon, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 1989, her mother and father; a son Stuart and his wife Linda of Boston, MA, a son Dennis of Saskatoon; three sisters Margery (Peg) Watson of Abbey, Dorothy Atkins of Abbey and Kathleen (Kaye) Braaten of Saskatoon, SK. She is survived by daughter-in-law Yvette Lyster of Saskatoon; two grandsons, Damien and Stephen (Jennifer) of Saskatoon, SK; two granddaughters, Nicole (Joe) Howley, Tracy (Steve) Berry and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Evelyn (Dave) Houston and family of Weyburn, Shirley (Ed) Nelson and family of Surrey, BC, Beatrice (Ed) Metz and family of Red Deer, AB; one brother Steve (Jean) Lines of Winnipeg, MB and their family; two sisters-in-law Marg Lyster and family of Moose Jaw, SK, Ruth Small and family of Kamloops, BC and on brother-in-law Pat (Rilla) Lyster and family of Rocky Mountain House, AB. Jean was an active member of the Cabri United Church and choir, Shackleton UCW, a 50+ member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a past Grand Officer of the Grand Chapter of Saskatchewan, Past Matrons Club, Cabri Community Choir, Senior Citizens Member, Bridge Club, Exercise Club, Miry Creek Golf Club and Cabri Curling Club. Over the years she belonged to the old Hospital Aid, the Legion Auxiliary, and was involved with all the groups the boys belonged to, including the Cabri Brass Band, Cabri Swim Club, Chamber of Commerce, the PTA, Hockey Clubs, Cubs and Scouts. After her children were raised she was Manageress of the Dry Goods Department of Cabri Co-operation Association for 12 years. She served four years as Alderman on Cabri Town Council and served on the Cabri Housing Authority Board for six years, three of those years as chairman. After she retired from public life, she and Jack Culham, who had both lost their spouses, travelled to many parts of the world and spent many happy hours on the golf course, dancing, and having supper together in the evenings. She took great pride in her yard and home, and loved gardening, baking, canning and doing needlepoint pictures. She made several trips to Boston for weddings, graduations and to see the great grandchildren. She loved Cabri and community, and considered everyone special friends and neighbors. The celebration of Jean’s life was held at Cabri United Church on Friday, February 22, 2013 with Reverend Marie Barr officiating. The organist was Lexie Culham. Special music was by Bert Culham and Wallace Carleton accompanied by Lexie Culham as well as John Martin, Pat Martin. The Community Choir lead the hymns. The lightening of the Christ Candle was done by great granddaughters Jessie and Tegan Jean and a reading was done by grandson Stephen. The Eulogy was read by Yvette Lyster. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Cabri Hospital Auxiliary or to the Cabri United Church in lieu of flowers.
