We the family of Reginald Joseph McNeil regret to announce his sudden passing on Feb. 23, 2013, with his family by his side.
Born in Reserve Mines on Jan. 31, 1939, Reggie was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine (McNabb) McNeil.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Reserve Mines, N.S.
By trade, Reggie was a painter and dry-waller. He worked for various companies in the local area before re-locating to Yellowknife, N.W.T. He returned to Cape Breton in 2002. In his retirement, he worked part time as a security guard up until 2012.
Reggie had a zest for life and enjoyed each day to the fullest. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Joey and Katie, they were the light of his life.
Reggie was an avid dart shooter and played on national teams throughout the years. He was a member of Branch 2, RCL, Reserve Mines, as well as the Reserve Mines Pensioners Club. Reggie enjoyed hockey and skating and going on his many trips to Tim Hortons throughout the day.
Reggie is survived by his daughter, Tanya (Vaughn) Poirier, Reserve Mines; two brothers, Vince ‘Bubba’ (Joan) McNeil, Glace Bay, Bill (Sheila) McNeil, Dominion; two grandchildren, Joey and Katie Poirier; a special cousin, Marge Broderick, Sydney; nieces and nephews, Darryl, Debra, Derrick, Michael, Maureen, Tracey, Danny and cousins, Jamie and Janice.
Reggie was predeceased by his wife, Muriel (Gallant) McNeil.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Dan Boudreau will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Reggie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund.
