Julia Blanche Thomey

Julia Blanche Thomey

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Blanche Thomey on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family at her side.
Born in Sydney, Blanche was the daughter of Kenneth and the late Catherine (Urquhart) White.
Blanche leaves behind to mourn, her loving husband of 31 years, Brian; sisters, Kendra (Robert) Betuik, Laura (John) Rykunyk and Julia; brothers, Billy (Elaine) and Lloyd (Susanne); and brother-in-law, Michael (Lesa) Thomey. Also left to mourn whom she loved so dearly is her many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, goddaughter, Cindy and godson, Devan; and all her dear friends, especially John and Valerie Levesque and Karen Haskell from Sarnia, Ont.
Besides her mother, Blanche was predeceased by her brother, Wally, grandparents, Blanche and Billy Urquhart and Julia and Stewart White, and also mother and father-in-law, Lillian and Harry Thomey.
Blanche loved her family so much that she was like a second mother to her younger brothers and sisters. She was an unselfish soul who always gave of herself to her family and friends. She was an avid dart player and member of the Goodwill Mixed Dart League since its inception. Blanche will be remembered by family and friends for her love of listening to Gospel music and for sharing her deep ‘Love of God’.
The family would like to thank the staff at the IMCU and An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. We also extend a special ‘thank you’ to Eileen McIntyre for all her compassion and guidance.
Visitation for the late Blanche Thomey will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) today (Tuesday, Feb. 26) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Blanche may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Online condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.pierfuneralhome.com.
