SPRINGVILLE – It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Irma Carolina Smith of Springville, Pictou County.
She was the daughter of the late Peter Henriaus and Marie Louise (Vanderelde) Cosyn of Gent, Belgium.
Irma was predeceased by her husband Donald M.F. Smith; sisters, Mary Louise Deschepper, Martha Francesca Coleta Cosyn and grandson Bobby Smith.
Irma was a war bride having married Donald in Dec. 1945 in Belgium. She commenced her voyage in this country on September 4, 1946.
Irma lived in Springville most of her life where she and her late husband Donald raised their family.
The following, her loving family were blessed to have her as a Mother: Fielding (Roberta) Smith, Springville; Anne (Barry) Corbin, Berwick; Marshall (Jo-Anne) Smith, Millstream; Nancy (Rob) MacNutt, Springville; Mervin (Charlene) Smith, Westville; Arlene (Robert MacMillan) Smith, New Glasgow; Freddie (Debbie) Smith, Springville and Kenneth Smith, Calgary; grandchildren: Tanya Corbin, Kenda Smith, Jennifer Conway, Angela Cruickshank, Charmaine Smith, Matthew MacNutt, Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Chabassol, Matthew Smith, Master Corporal Colin Chabassol; Jeffrey Chabassol; Kayla Smith, Kelsey Smith; great-grandchildren: Taylor Conway, Emmett Francis, Colby Pellerine, Liam Francis, Logan Pellerine, Ian Cruickshank.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 1st in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Springville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Barb Fotheringham officiating. Burial will be in the Springville Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Irma may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care or a charity of one’s choice.
