With profound sadness and regret, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and aunt, Gloria Patricia (Campbell) MacDonald on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born and raised in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Rodderick and Sarah (Carrigan) Campbell.
Before her marriage, Gie, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was employed in various places, including Sydney airport where she met and married William ‘Bill’ MacDonald, whom she adored. Bill passed away in 2003.
Gia was a devoted and proud mother to three sons, Bill (Kerri), Glenn and Ian (Lori). She was also a loving grandmother of Hannah, Abby, Mitchell, Madelyn, Taylor, Brett, Cael and Breagh. Gie is also survived by sister, Katherine Osborne, sister and best friend, Clair (John) McDonald, brothers, Michael, Sheldon (Dorothy), Bill, Stephen (Jo-Anne); sister-in-law, Barbara MacDonald; and also numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Gie was predeceased by brothers, Alex, Rod and Francis in infancy, sister-in-law, Margaret Campbell and brother-in-law, Nelson MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place at Gie’s request. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A celebration of her life will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by a reception. Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
No flowers by request. As an expression of sympathy for Gloria, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
