Raymond Joseph Gallagher
October 22, 1930 - February 27, 2013
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Husband, Dad, Granddad and Brother, Raymond, surrounded by his family. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Elizabeth, his three children: daughter Catherine Gillingham (Maurice) and grandchildren Emily and Liam; son Christopher Gallagher (Jana) and grandson Patrick; son Anthony Gallagher (Erica) and granddaughter Erin. Also leaving to mourn his sisters: Rita McDonald (St. John’s), Florence Haney (Camarillo, California), Genevieve Unger (Palm Coast, Florida). Ray was a caring and thoughtful son, a kind and generous brother and an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He adored his grandchildren and you could see his face light up from within whenever they said granddad or just gave him a smile. We will be sure to keep his memory alive with each of them. He was a devoted and loving husband and to say he adored Elizabeth would be an understatement. Mom, he loved you with every fiber of his being. Dad was such a jokester always wanting to get a good laugh out of someone and loved to be in on a good joke or prank. He had the hardiest laugh and kept his sense of humor right up until his final days. He was a friend to so many and had a way with people. For anyone who dare to step foot on a squash or tennis court against him knew of his fierce competitive spirit. Yet he could be so sweet and smiling while they played. The greatness of a man should not be measured in all of his wealth or accomplishments in life, but for the way in which his family views him. And all of us who knew him saw him as a sweet, loveable, caring and devoted man. We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to John Fully from Tender Loving Care. John and Dad had a little saying “cold hands, warm heart”. Dr. Percy Crocker and staff for their exceptional care and kindness. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Saturday from 7 – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.. A Funeral Mass and celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at The Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation in Ray’s memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, or a Charity of one’s choice. “… My friend, I’ll say it clear,
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain,
I’ve lived a life that’s full,
I traveled each and every highway,
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way”.
We love you dad. You will be missed.
