Passed peacefully away at the age of 58 on February 28, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Gerry was predeceased by his parents Jim and Barbara and mother-in law Mary Nurse. Leaving to mourn his great loss: his best friend and wife of thirty-four years, Kathy (Kathryn Nurse); his two sons whom he loved and was so proud of and their partners in life: Gerard (Nina Mujcin) and Todd (Keliegh Butt); his two beautiful grandchildren whom he loved dearly and could never get enough of: Gevina and Gavin Gerry Halley. Gerry will also be remembered with love by his brothers and their wives: Wayne (Virginia), Brian (Tara), Greg (Geraldine); sisters and their husbands: Sharon (Dr. John Fardy), Lynn (Dave Pierce); brothers and sisters-in-law (Nurse family): Tom (Sandy), Rick (Marie), Noel (Jackie), Chuck (Marietta), Bob (Cathy), Chris (Debbie) Gary, Clarice (David Maher), Elizabeth (Calvin Hunt), Barbara (Ronnie Cadigan); his god-daughter Andrea Nolan, as well as many other special nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, far too many to individually name, such as his “Goulds Pond Family”. Gerry was an avid walker who loved to frequent the Rennies Mill Trail, the Goulds Pond roads and his favourite fishing paths. He enjoyed life to the fullest and had a great love for the outdoors. Gerry will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Thank you to Drs. F. Maroun, J. Greenland, Kara Laing, Andrew Hutton, Maureen Dunn and all the staff from the HSC 5 South, Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Centre, and Palliative Care Unit for all their exceptional care and compassion while looking after Gerry during his illness. Cremation has taken place at Gerry’s request. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at Mary Queen of Peace on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to the Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.
