Mildred Ileen Doyle

Doyle, Mildred Ileen (Roode), 94, on March 3, 2013, surrounded by the love of her family, passed away peacefully in her own home on Avon St., Bible Hill, where she resided for the past 76 years. Born in Crowes Mills on November 20, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma (Laing) Roode. A stronger woman you could never find. She lived a life with many challenges and hard knocks which she overcame with her usual quiet dignity. She had an amazing memory that withstood the test of time. Seldom would she have to fumble to recall facts on events or people from 90 years ago. To the end her mind was on total recall. Millie was involved greatly in her earlier years with the Immanuel Baptist Church Ladies Guild. For many years she was a valued member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, serving 20 years as the treasurer, as well as a term as president. Her time spent as a member of the Red Hat Society brought her many good friends as well as great fun. Millie very much enjoyed reading, knitting (dishcloths and mittens for her family kept her busy), and was a great fan of watching curling on television. She enjoyed traveling, and was always ready for a “Sunday Drive”. She loved for family and friends to drop in for a visit or to take the time to phone her for a chat. Besides her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband Ralph in 1967, son Donald (Duckie), two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Ernest, Chesley, Russell; sisters, Ethel, Lena, Jean, Leona, Freda and Ann. She is survived by sons, Bill (RoseMarie), Calgary, Phillip (Liz), Ottawa, Keith “Sonny” (Pam), Art “Butch” (Nancy), both of Truro; daughters, Marlyn (Ronald) Wolfe, Norma (Marshall) Frizzell, Diana Pender, Shelley (Kent) Archibald; daughter-in-law, Corenne Doyle (late Duckie); sister, Beulah Matthews, all of Truro; twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5th from 7- 9 p.m. with a Memorial Service Wednesday, March 6th at 10 a.m., all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Pastor Jean Woods officiating. If so desired donations in her memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, Colchester East Hants Health Centre Palliative Care, Victoria Order of Nurses or to a charity of choice. Live web-casting of the service will begin at 9:58 a.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with online condolences and donations at: www.colchestercommunity.com
