Mary 'Maye' MacRae

Passed on: March 13th, 2013

We, the family of Mary Elizabeth ‘Maye’ MacRae, are sorry to announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, but are so thankful for all our great years together.
Maye was the daughter of the late Mary (MacDonald) & Neil MacLean. She was a member of Greenwood United Church.
Maye was married to Bain MacRae for 50 years until his death in March 1984.
Nanny is survived by her son, Carl (Shirley) MacRae; daughters, Ethel (Donald) MacDonald and Chrissie (Barry) Gillis and son-in-law, Joseph Fitzgerald. Nanny also had 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren plus one she was anxiously awaiting, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her husband, Bain, Maye was predeceased by her son, Roy; daughter, Kathleen and brother, Neil.
Maye worked at Beinn Bhreagh, the Thistle Down Restaurant and the Silver Dart Lodge as housekeeping supervisor until her retirement. Following her retirement Nanny thought she should volunteer at Alderwood Rest Home to help ‘the old people’ which she did until she decided to become a full time resident last year.
We would like to thank all the wonderful people who took such great care of Nanny at Alderwood Rest Home. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Chow and Dr. Genge and the staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
At Nanny’s request there will be no wake or reception after the funeral. Funeral will be held at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck on Saturday at 11 a.m. with burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alderwood Rest Home or Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral is under the direction of Sunset Funeral Co-op.
Maye will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
