We regret to announce the passing of Hazel Clare, 83, on Jan. 19, 2010, at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. Hazel, a.k.a. “Ma” was surrounded by her loving family and passed while favourite stories were being told about her life.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late David and Bertha (Guy) Cole. She was an adherent of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. Hazel was a longtime employee of Simpson Sears, and a proud member of the ‘Hi Neighbour’ ladies group. In her years past, Hazel loved to dance, bowl, play shuffleboard and “never win” at bingo.
She was a fantastic mother to Brenda (Randy) Austin, super grand ‘Ma’ to Steven (Ashley) Austin and Tara (Tim) Davis, and great-grand ‘Ma’ to Clara, all of St. Thomas, Ont. Also surviving are her brothers, Alex (Elaine) Cole, Sydney Mines, David (Evelyn) Cole, Dartmouth and sister, Irene (late Raymond) Perry, Halifax. She was a loving aunt to nieces and nephews in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Steve in 1993 and by an infant sister, Mary Love Cole.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Westview Funeral Chapel, London, Ont.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel’s memory may be made to the Sunshine Foundation Dreams for Kids, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
