KOURI, Norman Jr. was born in Ponteix January 9, 1932 and passed away peacefully at Foyer St-Joseph in Ponteix on March 10' 2013. He was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marie (Liboiron) Kouri, his son Joel (Loretta) and his daughter Michelle. Norman will be lovingly remembered by his 3 grandchildren, Marcus, Colten and Lacie and will also be missed by his 3 surviving sisters, Marjorie Read, Lillian Gee and Patricia Currie as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and business associates.Norman was proud of his grandchildren and followed their exploits closely. Marcus, the eldest grandchild became his pride and joy as he excelled in sports and in particular in hockey, vo/1eyball and track and field. It was quite fitting that Marcus was the urn bearer at the funeral ceremony. Norman was raised and lived his entire life in Ponteix. He worked for the family business, Kouri's Market until he took sole ownership of it in the early 80's. Norman loved golf and was quite proficient at the game. He designed the existing Ponteix Golf Course and hand planted the hundreds of trees gracing its manicured fairways. Norman began painting in the early '70s and developed a style using a wide variety of media that is quite unique. He captured the spirit and the look of the prairies that he had come to know and love so well. His love of the outdoors extended to gardening and his yard was always a showcase of flowers. Norman was also known for his beautiful tenor voice. He began singing in public in 1944 at the age of 12 when he joined the Notre Dame church choir. In later years, he was also a member of the local Lutheran choir. A funeral mass, officiated by Father Guy Amedee Ainemon was celebrated on March 15, 2013 at Notre Dame d'Auvergne Catholic Church in Ponteix. Burial will be held at a later date in the Ponteix Parish Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Foyer St-Joseph in Ponteix.
