Passed peacefully away in his 94th year at the Veteran’s Memorial Caribou Pavilion in St. John’s on Monday, March 25th, 2013. Predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Tansey) Summers, his parents, Patrick Summers, KC, O.B.E and Georgina (Branscome) Summers, and nine brothers and sisters. Left to mourn his children; Tim (Patricia Heath) – St. John’s, Nick (Ann Ryan) – St. John’s, Elizabeth (John Lubar) – Corner Brook, Patrick (Ermelinda Nogueira) - Toronto, Charlotte, Jacqui (Timm Dawson) — Orlando, Florida, Christine - Guelph, Rebecca (Chris Turner) — Halifax; and grandchildren Jeffrey Summers, Elyse Summers, Tansey Summers-Lubar, Geordie Summers-Lubar, Nathaniel Summers, Rachel Summers, Isaiah Summers, Adam Turner, and Grace Turner. One great grandchild – Zachary William Summers. Dr. Summers was a former professor at Memorial University and the first head of the Geography Department. He attended St. Bonaventure’s College, Memorial College, Dalhousie University, and McGill University. He authored a text book of the geography of Newfoundland which was in use in the province’s schools for many years. The family wish to thank the staff of Chancellor Park and the Veteran’s Memorial Caribou Pavilion for their support and care they gave our father in his last few years. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., St. John’s on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:00 – 9:00 P.M., and Wednesday, March 27 at 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral to take place on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Pius X on Smithville Crescent, St. John’s.
