ROY, HELEN T. - Mrs. Helen Teresa (Abrahart) Roy of Grand Falls passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at the Grand Falls General Hospital on March 25th, 2013. She was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario in 1920. Mrs. Roy was the wife of the late John Sullivan Roy, who passed away September 29th, 2010. Mrs. Roy was a housewife and a loving mother of 11 children - (Judith Anne, deceased), Sharon Durepos, John, Laura Crosby, Michael, Patrick, Stephanie Chowdhry, Helen Rabatich, Stephen, Robert and Kevin. She was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving on the ladies' Auxiliary in Richibucto (Branch 30) and Grand Falls (Branch 21) for many years. Mrs. Roy was a very active member of the community with volunteer work and sports. She was the Ladies Golf Club champion in 1969, she made a 'hole in one' in her early 80's. She loved fly fishing, bowling, curling, hunting, playing scrabble and cards. Helen can be remembered most for the unconditional love she had for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a proud Grand Falls resident who always put others before herself. She will be missed! She is survived by her children, Sharon Durepos (Jocelyn) of Montreal, John (Deborah) of Falmouth, NS, Laura Crosby (James) of Montreal, Michael (Ghislaine) of Montreal, Patrick of Grand Falls, Stephanie Chowdhry of Grand Falls, Helen Rabatich (Dusty) of Plaster Rock, Stephen (Régina) of Grand Falls, Robert of Halifax and Kevin (Marie) of Montreal, 17 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Mrs. William Abrahart Jr of Ontario and niece, Janice Gilchrist. In addition to her daughter, Judith Anne, she was predeceased by her parents, William Abrahart Sr. and Christina Watson Baird and her only sibling, William Abrahart Jr.
Resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours Monday, April 1st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 2nd from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 2nd at 2 p.m. from the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls with interment in the parish cemetery. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary will meet for prayers Monday at 7:30 p.m. For those who wish, donations to the New Brunswick Lung Association would be appreciated by the family. www.oregans.ca
