Passed on: March 27th, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Marjorie Reid, announce her passing on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Gabarus, N.S., March 15, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Gray) MacGillivray. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Marjorie was a member of Zion Wesley United Church. She attended Normal College, Truro, N.S. and taught school in Gabarus and Belfry, N.S. Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She devoted the majority of her time to her family and she supported her husband, Albert, in the fishing industry for many years. Marjorie was able to live in her own home until the time she entered the hospital, three weeks ago. She loved watching the boats come into the wharves and watching the comings and goings from the post office across the street. Until the last few years, she knit and crocheted items for her family and did crossword puzzles. Marjorie’s mind was sharp as evidenced by her love of baking, cooking and doing the Lexicon and Target puzzles in the newspaper.
She is survived by her son, Ernest (Noreen), Edmonton, Alberta. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Fred (the late Edna) MacIntyre, Marion Bridge, N.S., as well as her treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren, Heather (MacIntyre) Byrne – Jeff (Sonya) and Greg, Coxheath, N.S.; Darcy (the late John) Reid – Janelle (Joey), Brady and Casey, St. Albert, Alta.; Gwen (Reid) and Darryl Bartlett – Dylan and Zack, Oakville, Ont.; Robert Reid, Fort St. John, B.C.; Paul MacIntyre, Marion Bridge, N.S.; Elizabeth Reid, Edmonton, Alta.; Roberta (Reid) and Charlie Kim – Jake, Madeline and Mac, Edmonton, Alta.; David and Tracy MacIntyre – Noah and Blake, St. Albert, Alta.; her sister-in-law, Margaret Robar, as well as her much loved nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Albert (1994); her daughter, Edna (MacIntyre) and her grandsons, John and Daniel Reid. She was also predeceased by her brother, John and her sisters, Evelyn (Bagnell), Edna (Gray) and Ada (MacDonald).
A celebration of Marjorie’s life and the interment will be held at a future date.
Donations in Marjorie’s memory can be made to Zion Wesley United Church or a charity of choice.
