Gladys Adelia Chipman - 91, of Kentville and Tupperville, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 in Shannex - Blomidon Court, Greenwich. Born on October 24, 1921 in Granville Ferry, Annapolis County, daughter of the late Bamford Troop and Doris (Gregory) Miller. Gladys was raised on the family farm in Granville Ferry along with her 11 brothers and sisters. From that upbringing she acquired a strong sense of fun, family and thrift which made her the ideal farmer’s wife to Chip, her husband of 63 years, and the perfect mother of their five children. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Gladys focused her energy and love on her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed nourishing all with the fresh fruits and vegetables that Chip grew. Pickling, canning, freezing and jamming everything possible as well as caring for her children and running outside to help with the fruit stand were all part of her busy life. Certainly one of the highlights in her life was being crowned Queen Annapolisa XV in 1947, representing the Town of Annapolis Royal. She was a beautiful kind woman and “queen” to her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Hugh) Simpson, Wolfville; Nancy Chipman (Larry Arsenault), Paris, Ontario; Susan Chipman, Fairfield, Iowa; two sons, Bill, New Minas; Robert (Margie), Tupperville; grandchildren, Tania (Mark Hand) Simpson, Andrea (Robert McCutcheon) Simpson, and David (Marissa LaPierre) Simpson, Kathryn (Dan Selmi) Arsenault, Suzanne (Michael Berends) Arsenault, Julie Arsenault, Ryan (Trisha) Chipman, Emma, Adam, Allie, Leah and Eric Chipman; great grandchildren, Claire, Rose, Eden, Finn, Ella and Drew; three sisters, Mary (Granville) Thompson, Emma Buchanan and Patsy (Russell) Mackintosh; three sisters-in-law, Marg Miller, Ida Miller and Alvina Miller; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene “Chip” in 2011, a grandson, Colin Chipman ; three sisters, Anita Hills, Dorothy Cleveland Miller and Harriet Cosman; five brothers, Stephen, Jack, Warren “Bud”, George and Edwin.
