Predeceased by her parents: Chesley Cole and Winnifred (nee Wellman) and her two infant twin sisters: Molly and Maud. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she leaves to mourn with many fond memories husband Alonzo; sons: Grant, Glenn (Jill), Roy; and daughters: Dale Butler (Robert), and Gaye Skelding (Thomas). Also left to celebrate her life are seven grandchildren: Peter (Twyla), Christopher, and Andrew Butler; Mitchell, Megan, Emma, and Katie Normore and two great-grandchildren: Heidi and Hudson Butler. Left with wonderful memories are extended family Job and Judy Halfyard; special friend Phyllis Gard, Emma O’Rourke, Cindy Taylor, and Jack and Marie Russell whose families always helped and inspired her in so many ways. Ruby is also remembered by a large circle of other relatives and friends. Ruby was born in Wellman’s Cove and left home at 16 for Teacher’s College. She taught in Roberts Arm, Birchy Bay, Loon Bay, Beaumont, and Wellman’s Cove. She was married in 1952 and moved to St. John’s in 1957. Ruby was a pillar of her church. She was very active in the Gower Street United and Grace United churches. She served in many executive roles in UCW, such as President and Secretary. She served as Clerk of Session and Lay Reader. Although a United Church member, the Salvation Army school was close by so she chose, in the 1960s, to send her children there because, “It just made sense”. She was ahead of her time. She was a Worthy Mistress in The Orange Lodge. Whether she volunteered for the Green Bay Health Auxiliary, the John Howard Society or the food bank, she will always be remembered for making a positive difference in the lives of others. Resting at Central Funeral Homes, Springdale. Visitation to take place on Wednesday, April 3 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00.
