Jerry HENGEVELD
Gerhardus Engelbertus “Jerry” Hengeveld, 81 of Waterville, Kings County, and formerly of Pictou County, went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2013.
Born in Winterswijk, the Netherlands, on January 21, 1932, he was very full of life, loved to sing in church, and go for long walks and drives. His mind was constantly working from building an ice rink for his children, and all the children in the neighbourhood, to building a windmill that actually did produce electricity. Jerry was retired from Michelin Tire and was a member and elder of the Kentville Christian Reformed Church. He was a very gentle and kind man.
Surviving are his son, Hank (Annette); daughter, Linda (Bill); brother, Jan (Gerda); grandchildren: Melissa, Jerry, Patricia (Jordan), Justin, Melanie, Caitlyn and two step-grandchildren, Tiffany (Philip) and Christopher; brother-in-law, Johan Kranenberg.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Leny Klein-Nibbelink; a daughter in infancy, and second wife, Tina Visser. He was also predeceased by sister, Reik Kranenberg; brothers, Hank and Bertus Hengeveld, in Holland.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Amanda Henderson officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, April 7, from the Kentville Christian Reformed Church, with Pastor Bert Vanderbeek officiating.
