Edward Bruce

Edward Joseph Bruce
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Joseph Bruce on April 2, 2013 at the age of 79. Edward passed away at the Victoria Hospital after a long battle of lung disease with his family by his side. He was born in Bellevue on November 6, 1933 to John and Florestine Bruce.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Marie-Ange (nee Pilon), of 57 years, his seven children; Henry (Tychuna), David (Brenda), Gerald, Leonard (Donna), Doris (Louis), Susie (Marcel), and Morris (Jan), his 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and sister Marie Langlois.
Edward met the love of his life, Marie-Ange Pilon, at a concert in St. Laurent and were married on October 25, 1955 in Batoche, SK. They resided in Bellevue, where Edward worked as a farmer, then moved to Regina in 1957, where he worked on the pipeline. Their first son Richard was born, but unfortunately passed away at infancy. In 1958 they moved to Batoche where they spent most of their life. In 1961 Ed commenced working at his dream job, The Batoche National Historic Site. He worked there for 33 years before retiring but with his knowledge of the Metis history he was still called upon several times for his influence and guidance. In 1996, Ed and Marie-Ange moved to St. Louis, where they resided until his passing.
Ed loved to fish, hunt, dance, play cards, watch hockey, and listen to old time music, especially the fiddle. He was a very avid news watcher and an incredible bannock and bread maker. Volunteering at the Shrine was one of his passions, but his favourite pastime was racing horses, as he loved horses and was a very good horseman. Ed was a proud, religious, honest, tough, but very caring man. He was very proud of his seven children and would share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. He was also very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives, as they enjoyed being a part of his. Ed loved all of his grandchildren equally but shared a special bond with his baby girl, Kylie, who was the light of his life and helped him through his illness.
The Prayer Service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Both Services will be held at the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Fahlman as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Antoine de Padoue Roman Catholic Cemetery, Batoche. Donations in memory of Edward may be directed to the Saskatchewan Lung Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK. 306-233-4403 .
