Colin MacAskill
Born In: Kentville, Canada
Passed on: April 2nd, 2013
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son and Jenna’s husband, Colin Frederick MacAskill of Kentville, on April 2, 2013. Colin was born in 1982 in Kentville, and grew up in Melanson, Gaspereau, and finally White Rock. Our home was always open to Colin’s friends throughout the years, and much time was spent playing basketball with dad, Fred. Colin also loved playing softball for many years on the White Rock Team, and their teams had great success in playoffs with Colin guarding third base. He was a member of the Hants West AA Hockey team and a member of the Canadian National Handball team. Colin followed many sports and never missed an opportunity to share the games with his friends. Basketball was always the first passion in sports. Colin was a graduate of Horton High School in 2001, the NSCC Kingstec Campus in 2003 and completed his Business Administration degree at Mount Saint Vincent University in 2006. During his university career, he worked with Scotiabank at various locations in Nova Scotia and in 2010, decided to pursue a career in carpentry. He joined his father in the construction and contracting business, South Mountain Carpentry where Colin and Fred truly loved working together. Colin was blessed with a great voice and musical talent. He played in several bands and loved taking part in jam sessions with friends and family. He loved people, made friends easily and lived life with joy. Colin will continue to touch lives with his gift of tissue and cornea donation. Colin will be fondly remembered by his wife and best friend, Jenna (nee Maxwell) of Kentville; his parents, Sarita (Apt) and Fred MacAskill of White Rock; his in-laws, Jane and Allan Maxwell, Kentville; a brother-in-law, Donnie of Dawson Creek, BC; and his dog, Whiskey. As well, Colin leaves behind many cousins, aunts and uncles, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, and in 2006, his beloved brother, Ryan. The MacAskill family welcomed friends and family at their home at 1060 White Rock Road from 1-4 p.m. on Friday April 5, 2013 and again from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013. A celebration of Colin’s life followed by a reception was held on Sunday April 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. As a final expression of love for his brother Ryan, we know Colin would welcome a donation in his memory to the Ryan A. MacAskill fund at the Nova Scotia Community College, Kingstec Campus, Kentville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
