Gerald Alexander 'Poogie' Hache
It is with deep sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of Gerald ‘Poogie’ Hache, 51, of Centre Street, Reserve Mines, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence.
Born in Reserve Mines, Poogie was the son of Simon Gerald ‘Sacko’ Hache and the late Katherine Freda (McKinnon) Hache.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines.
Poogie was employed with Eastern Fence for over 28 years.
He loved cars especially his 68 Camaro and 69 Chev Truck. Poogie was an avid NASCAR racing fan, his hero being Dale Earnhardt. When he wasn’t watching auto racing he was tuned in watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens. Poogie also raced for many years at Island Speedway where he was known as the Flying Frenchman. But mostly, he will be remembered for his friendly and witty personality.
Poogie is survived by his common-law wife, Leona Morrison; his daughter, Raven, who was his pride and joy, Sydney; stepson, Ricky (Danielle) and their daughter, Abbie, Truro; one brother, Allen (Karen), Stellarton; two sisters, Pauline Kostey (Jimmy), Glace Bay, Gina (George) Mills, Reserve Mines; three nieces, Michelle, Lisa, Katie — who was also his goddaughter; one nephew, Shawn; one greatnephew, Luke McNeil; mother-in-law, Carmella Morrison; and his good buddies from the garage.
Besides his mother, Poogie was predeceased by his grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Dan Boudreau, is Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family in the church hall for a reception.
As an expression of sympathy for Poogie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the N.S. Heart & Stroke Association or a charity of one’s choice.
