William 'Earl' MacLeod

William Earl MacLeod, of Royal Avenue, Sydney, passed away, at home, on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late John ‘Jack’ and Margaret (Ferguson) MacLeod.
A veteran of the Second World War, Earl served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment and the 45th Field Squadron Reserves, Sydney. An active member and employee of the Sergeants Garrison Mess, Sydney and an executive member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney. Until retirement in 1983, Earl was employed with Sydney Steel. He was an avid and well-known collector of military items. Earl enjoyed skating in his earlier years and was an avid walker. He was well-known for his many stories, his quick wit and sense of humour.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Geraldine (MacGillivary); three daughters, Iylah (Byron), Joyce and Heather (Bob); three sons, Michael (Brenda), David (Valerie) and Earl (Melina); 13 grandchildren, Amy (Darren), Deanna (Walter), Michael (Lisa), Mark (Lisa), Christopher (Lee-Anne), Tyler, Krystal, Jared (Rachel), Cory, Kalyn, Erin (Brent), Kyla and Connor; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Alice, Madelyn and Ethan; brother, Allister, Welland, Ont. and several cousins.
Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his sister, Marion Bond and brothers, Morris and Ralph.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Monday 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
