It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to all. Herb passed away on April 18, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Herb served in the Navy during the Second World War. After the war, Herb worked at Easter Light and Power and the Heavy Water Plant before starting his career with the Sydney Steel Plant as electrical foreman in the blast furnace.
He was an all-around handyman, building his home and helping everyone with whatever skills they needed; be it carpentry, plumbing, electrical.
After his retirement from the Steel Plant, he and his wife, Margaret moved to Morrison Road. Herb was a very proud dad to his children, Darlene, Sydney, Patricia, Yellowknife, Gary (Nancy), Parrsboro, and Peter (Mary), Lower Sackville. He was so very loved by his grandchildren, Stacey (Trevor), Stephanie (Joe), Krista (Chad), Kevin (Natalie), Robyn and Nymark. His great-grandchildren, Taylor, Theo, Myles, Gretchen and Henry Herbert were the light of his life. His many nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.
Herb was predeceased by the love of his life, Margaret (MacLennan) and son, Kevin, parents, Olga and Peder, brother, Raymond and sisters, Mildred, Eunice and Joyce. He is survived by his extended family who meant the world to him; brother-in-law, Sandy MacLennan and his wife, Ginny who were such a great help to him and Margie over the years; sisters-in-law, Dini Nymark, Edna MacLennan, Ann MacAulay, Margie MacLennan, Eileen Matheson, Ethel MacDonald (Steve) and brother-in-law, Bill Thomas.
