ELLIS, DONALD BAYDEN - 1932 - 2013 - After a lengthy illness, Donald Bayden Ellis, formerly of Rust Bank Ct., husband of Karen (Scott) passed away peacefully on April 28, 2013 at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes in Bathurst, at the age of 81. Born in Bathurst, N.B., he was the son of the late James and Ada (Reynolds) Ellis. Don spent the majority of his career in lumber and building supplies working for Ottawa Valley Lumber and Canfor before establishing Ellis Building Supplies Ltd., with branches in Bathurst and Caraquet. In semi-retirement he continued to operate a contracting company and various other small enterprises. He also was a commercial lobster fisherman for over twenty years. An avid outdoorsman, he spent many years hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time at his camp at Tetagouche Lake. He was very active with minor hockey as a coach, manager and referee and enjoyed his years playing old-timer hockey and golf. Other than his wife he is survived by his three children: Wayne (Lise) of Quispamsis, N.B., Daniel (Nancy) of South Tetagouche, N.B. and Linda (John) White of Montreal, Qc., his three stepchildren: Calvin (Lisa) Scott of Bathurst, Colleen (John) Fish of Dubai and Melanie (late Rob) Stewart of Langley, B.C.; six grandchildren; six step grandsons and one great-grandson; one brother, Ross (Mary) of Quispamsis; two sisters: Audrey Ellis of Montreal and Joyce (late Joseph) Katrusiak of Toronto, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (MacMillan) in 1991.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1st 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, 395 Murray Ave., Bathurst, on Thursday, April 2 2013 at 2 pm with reception to follow. Donations in Don’s memory can be made to St Luke's Presbyterian Church, the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice.
