RICE, M. JOYCE - The passing of M. Joyce Rice of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Judge Douglas E. Rice occurred on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Moncton City Hospital, surrounded by family. Born on April 13, 1931 in Keswick Ridge, NB, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Jean (Saunders) Gilmore. She was a member of Wilmot United Church and the UCW; she was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; Keswick Ridge Quilters Guild and the Ladies Morning Out group in Mactaquac. She was an avid supporter of the Alzheimer Society. Joyce loved to sew, making quilts and many, many bags; she also enjoyed to ski and skate. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Karen (Gary Miller) of Kelly Creek, NB, Krista (Ralph Allen) of London, ON and Karla (Marty Beattie) of Kelly Creek, NB; son, Kirk (Janice) of Moncton, NB; grandchildren, Jorah, Ross (Michelle), Alana (Daniel), Drew (Kim), Amy (Andrew), Kyle, Clark, Emily, Ethan, Oliver, Damian and Dasia; great grandchildren, Emma, Leah, Cooper, Elle and Riley; sister, Gertrude Jean (Alfred) Whittier of Lennoxville, QC; brothers, Stirling (Doris) Gilmore of Elgin, NB and Owen Gilmore of Petticodiac, NB; several nieces and nephews and special sister, Pauline (Charlie) Howatt. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Clara (Bill) Allen.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 2 to 5 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Wilmot United Church on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Bob Jones, Canon John T. Sharpe and Rev. Keith Adams officiating. Interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery, Petticodiac, NB on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 2 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
