MacKAY, Murray Robert -90, of Elmfield, Pictou County, passed away peacefully May 5, 2013, surrounded by his family at home. Born November 20, 1922 in Diamond, he was the son of the late George and Jessie (Murray) MacKay. Murray was a machinist at Trenton Works for over thirty years. He also worked as a painter, carpenter, and was a hobby farmer. Murray enjoyed people, young and old, but also loved hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and woodworking. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, and a former member of the Scotsburn Choir. A strong supporter of the Elmfield Community Club, Murray was an avid card player, and attended many dances. He is survived by sons, Ronald (Darlene) and Gerald; grandson, Brandon; nieces, nephews, and special niece, Gail (Eric) Peckham; special cousins, Ruby MacKinnon, and Sadie MacCallum. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Hazel (MacCara) and sister, Sadie MacKenzie. Visitation will be held 6-9 PM Tuesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take place 2:00 PM Wednesday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the V.O.N., the Red Cross, or the Bethel Presbyterian Church.
