Passed peacefully away May 3, 2013 at Masonic Park Nursing Home, Clayton D. Cook, formerly of Lethbridge, NL, aged 92 years. Predeceased by his wife, Alice (nee Hancock), 2006. Left with cherished memories: many nieces, nephews and friends at Masonic Park. Clayton was born into a railway family and grew up in the Railway Station House, Princeton, Bonavista Bay. He joined the Newfoundland Railway in 1936 and retired from the Canadian National Railway in 1969. After his retirement, he took an active role in preserving the history of the Newfoundland Railway. In 1984, he successfully fought a one man campaign to save the historic Trinity Train Loop. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the Railway and was the author of five books on the subject. He received many awards and citations for his work on this topic. Many thanks to the staff at the Masonic Park Nursing Home for their care and compassion during his stay. Also many thanks to his two special friends: Francis Kelly and Mike Penny for their many cheerful visits. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, Monday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.
