John Iannetti

Born In: Sydney Mines

Passed on: May 2nd, 2013

John Alfredo Iannetti, 91, of Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Antonio and Juliette (Constantine) Iannetti.
John was founder-president of Iannetti Brothers Contractors/Iannetti Brothers Scrap Dealers. John started in business at an early age with the assistance of Charlie Layton’s father, of Layton’s Lumber, Sydney Mines. John's business blossomed during the years of demolition of railroads, coal mines, steel plant and locomotives; but to mention a few. Pride and diligence were taken in the accomplishments of demolition, while neither the injury nor a life of a worker was ever incurred.
John lived a full and colourful life, forever the storyteller. When not working John enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his cabin at his beloved Jersey Cove (his second home). Throughout the years, our mom never knew who would be at our dinner table. Many times Da would arrive home with strangers, who always left as friends.
He is survived by his siblings, Rosina (Francis ‘Tassie’) Arseneault, Norena Iannetti and James (Pauline) Iannetti of Sydney Mines. Memories of ‘Da’ will be forever cherished by his children, Lydia (Saker) Iannetti, John Jr. Iannetti, Charles (Louise Prince) Iannetti, Linda (Lorne) Serroul, Gregory (Mary Mellen) Iannetti, Angela Iannetti, all of Cape Breton. He is also survived by grandchildren, Georgette (John) Young, Angela (Steven) MacDonald, Nadia Saker, Lorne Jr. Serroul, Melissa Serroul, Joanna (Chad) Wascom, Christopher Iannetti, Samantha Iannetti and great-grandchildren, Carter and Hali Wascom, Daniel and Josephine Young, Aiden and Reilly Serroul, and Claudia MacDonald, our most recent addition, just weeks old.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Annie (McCready) in 1999 and by siblings, Laticia, Franky, Amelio, Armundo, Abbey, Patsy, Joe (Puppie) and Louie.
Special thanks is extended by the Iannetti family to Michel and Louise McKeough, Mike Igoe, Dale Miller, Northside Homemakers (Michelle Handly), nursing staff and housekeeping — 4 West Northside General Hospital and the VON (Donna Stewart).
Visitation has taken place at Francis Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday. Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, May 6, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial took place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or. Upon return, a reception was held in the basement at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. An open house was held following the reception at the home of Angela Iannetti, 26 Archibald Ave., North Sydney. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
