Madeline   Cole

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Madeline Gertrude Cole, age 95, of Port Elgin, NB. She passed away peacefully at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville on Tuesday April 30, 2013. Her loving husband “Dud”, was by her side.
Married to Clarence “Dud” Cole, of Sackville, for 70 years, she was born in Bayside, N.B., the daughter of the late Oliver and Hilda (Feindel) Allen. As a young teacher, first in Woodhurst, then in Bayside, Madeline and “Dud” married in 1942. Since 1946, they operated “Cole’s General Store” (later Cole’s Grocery) and together they raised a family. In 1962 Madeline opened Cole’s Hardware Store, in Port Elgin. She was the guiding force of that business for 48 years. Since late 2010 she and her husband have been residents of the Drew Nursing Home. For years, Madeline was active in the Trinity United Church (UCW) in Port Elgin and more recently, in St. Luke’s Anglican Church (ACW) in Baie Verte. She was also a devote member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Madeline is survived by her husband Clarence “Dud” Cole; children: Karen (George) Trueman, Point De Bute; Dr. William “Bill” (Lorette) of Los Angeles, CA.; Bonnie (Mark) Jamer, Miramichi; Ted (Sharon), Port Elgin; Shelley (Shaun) Murphy, Melrose; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother James “Jim” (Elaine) Allen, London, ON. and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two grandsons, David Jamer and Logan Cole; and siblings: Jacob “Jay”, Isabelle, Rita, and Robert.
Funeral arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home. Following cremation, visitation took place at the Jones Funeral Chapel, Port Elgin, N.B., Friday, May 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service was held, in Port Elgin, at the Jones Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m.

An internment will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery at a later date.
An open reception was hosted by the family, at the Jones Funeral Chapel following the service on Saturday.
Any donations in Madeline’s memory are asked to be made in the name of the Autism Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to any other charity of choice.
