We regret to announce the passing of Norma Marshall, 81 of Sydney River, Sunday May 12, 2013 at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Norma passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Sydney, the daughter of the late Ranold and Hazel (Burton) Ferguson.
She is survived by her grandson, Stuart (Paula Comeau) Marshall, Saint John, N.B.; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Marshall, Gabarus, N.S.; sister, Shirley (Gavin MacDonald) Port Coquitlam, B.C. and several nieces and nephews and their children.
Norma was a shy, generous and giving person with a great sense of humour and loved having people visit and spend time with her. She loved to bake and it was always in bulk and she would give most of it away to all that knew her. She was a very independent lady who did not want to impose or be a burden on anyone. She was very proud that she was able to stay in her own home until now.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, John R. ‘Jack’ Marshall in 1988 and her son and only child, Ronnie Marshall in 2006.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks for all the special care and help she received from Cape Breton County Home Makers, nurses of the VON, the staff at the C.B. Cancer Center, Emergency, ICU, and Palliative Care Units of the C.B. Regional Hospital, and her good friend and neighbor June Hanon who was always there to drive her where she needed to go.
Cremation has taken place. According to Norma’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. Interment will be at Alfred Smith Memorial Cemetery, in Sydney Forks.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CB Cancer Center at the C.B. Regional Hospital, or charity of choice.
