ALLENA MARGUERITE (LEE) REDMAN

ALLENA MARGUERITE (LEE) REDMAN

June 4, 1912 - May 9, 2013
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lee Redman on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Shorncliffe.
Lee was predeceased by husband Jack in 1983 and is survived by her son Bruce (Gail), grandsons Ryan (Meg), Darren (Marti), four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Madalyn, Morgan and Waylan.
Jack and Lee came to Sechelt in 1946 and established themselves in the grocery business in what was to eventually become Redman’s Red and White. Their successful venture soon outgrew the premises, which is, today, the site of the Salvation Army store on Cowrie Street, and they moved into a new building constructed especially for them across from the cenotaph. In 1972, after 25 years in business, they retired to their home in Selma Park.
Lee was an active person all her life, always ready to step forward and take part in community activities. In her early years, in Vancouver, she was a champion swimmer with plenty of medals and trophies of which she was very proud. When she and Jack moved to Sechelt, she took part volunteering and organizing community events. Over the years she has been President of the Sechelt PTA, Chair of several Sechelt May Day celebrations and a Past President and Life Member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, to name but a few. She was also a charter member of the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club and spent quality time with many of her friends on the fairways while encouraging her grandsons to take up the game. She will be truly missed by the many friends she made while a resident of Sechelt for the past 67 years.
She was also very pleased to receive greetings from Queen Elizabeth and the Governor General of Canada on the occasion of her 100th birthday which she cherished and liked to show people.
Special thanks to Dr. Wildegrube, to Nancy, Alison, Marie and Lisa, the staff at Shorncliffe, Greencourt, St.Mary’s Hospital and the many others who ensured her final days were spent in comfort and with dignity.
No service is planned but a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please make a donation to St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary.
