Mrs. Mary Richardson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Carlyle Richardson of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the age of 95 years. Mary leaves to cherish her memory one son, James (Denise) Richardson of Calgary; one daughter, Pamela (James) Cathcart of Courtney, British Columbia; three grandchildren, Holly (Mike) Dionne and their son, Trevor, Devin (Chris) Cabel and Nicole (Josh) Gardner and their children, Whitley and Asher; one sister, Jean Eisner of Somerset, Nova Scotia; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Carlyle; one daughter, Marilyn (Tony) Deis; four grandchildren, Amanda “Mandy” Deis, Jaclynn “Jackie” Deis, Kimberley Deis and Colin Cathcart; one brother, Donald Sawlor; and two sisters, Edna Reid and Helen Sawlor. Mary was born in Somerset, Nova Scotia where she was raised and educated. She attended King's County Academy in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Mary then worked for her father for 2 years at his grocery store. She attended Acadia University for 3 years, specializing in music and piano. Mary taught music at home and at Edge Hill School for Girls in Nova Scotia. Mary met and married Carlyle Richardson on August 7th, 1945 at Somerset. She then taught piano for many years in Regina for Luther College. After her marriage, Mary and Carlyle resided in Windsor, Ontario, before travelling across Canada. In 1950, they moved to Calgary and in 1951 to Regina. Together they started the first Richardson’s Jewelry in Regina in 1967. They resided at Regina Beach for 13 years, before moving to Medicine Hat in 1996. Mary enjoyed travelling to Mesa, Arizona during the winters, golfing, walking, and playing Bridge and Crib. She will be forever remembered by all those who knew and loved her. A Private Family Graveside Service was held in HILLSIDE CEMETERY on Friday, May 17th, 2013.
