It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Edgar Ross on May 15, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Palliative Care Unit, after his long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Edgar and Clara (Jackson) Ross.
Edgar was employed with CN Railway as a conductor until his retirement in 1993. He was also part of the Cape Breton Shriners, and the MacKay Masonic Lodge, from which he received a 50-year jewel. He was also part of Eastern Star Chapter 14, CN Pensioners and Spanish River Seniors Bowling, Meals on Wheels and St. John ambulance. Edgar also co-founded Cape Breton Fire Fighters Burn Care Society with his stepson Stephen. Edgar enjoyed dancing, skating, playing tarabish, and travelling to Maine to do some shopping.
Edgar is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (MacVicar); sons, Stephen (Juanita), Scott (Sonia) and Paul (Sheila) also three sons from a previous marriage, Roy, Garth and Clarke (Lisa); brothers, Harold (Margie), Ralph (Joan), George (Joanne), Dougie (Betty) and Eddy (Wally); sisters, Phyllis, Ruth, Edna and Iva. Edgar is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cape Breton Cancer Society can be made.
