
Edward Harry Gilroy
Gilroy, Edward Harry – 75, Valley, passed away peacefully from acute leukemia, May 16, 2013 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Rodney, N.S., he was a son of the late Layton and Lilla (Fraser) Gilroy. He attended Mt. Allison and Queen’s University graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for Bell Canada, Montreal for twenty years and with Maritime Tel & Tel until retirement. He was a founding member of the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia and was a member of the Friends of the Garden at the Agricultural College in Truro. He was an avid bridge player (Truro Duplicate Bridge Club), enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Lydia. He was a kind and gentle man and will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He is survived by daughters, Karen Allen, Dartmouth, Barbara (Basil) Dickson, North Milton, P.E.I.; son, Layton (Melanie), Elmsdale; grandchildren, Tristan and Madeline Dickson; sisters, Jean Taggart, Dartmouth, Marie Gilroy, Rodney; brother, Walter (Caroline) Wyoming, USA; many nieces and nephews; loving partner, Lydia Fox and her family. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Hutcheon; son-in-law, Graham Allen. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 2-4 pm; memorial service on Sunday, May 19 at 2 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Betty Darby officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia.
