Clara Sherriff
It is with heavy and saddened hearts we say goodbye to our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Clara (Brown) Sheriff, age 96, passed away with her family by her side at All Saints Hospital, Springhill on May 17, 2013. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Born October 8, 1916 in South Brook , she was the youngest daughter of the late Henry and Hattie (Stewart) Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Stephen) Phinney of Amherst, Sharon (Douglas) Schiefer of Springhill, Etta (Bill) Briand of Amherst and Valerie (Ed) Dobson of Springhill; sons, Elroy of Amherst and Alton (Shirley) of Springhill; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, son Harold, brothers, Roy, Dalton, Angus, Arthur and Henry; sisters, Della, Hattie, Hilda and Beulah (in infancy).
As a young girl she danced to music played by her dad, "Fiddler Brown" She was a homemaker noted for delicious meals, notably her apple and blueberry pies. In later years her culinary skills were enjoyed by customers at her daughter's Amherst Restaurant where she worked as a pastry cook.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St. Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m.
