David Elwin Harrison
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Elwin Harrison age 88 of Amherst, Nova Scotia. David went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan.
He was the eldest son of Elwin and Jennie (Miner) Harrison and was born in Maccan on February 8th, 1925.
At an early age, David began a career in farming. In 1952 he became employed with Nova Scotia Power commission and retired in a supervisory position after 34 years of service to the company.
David was actively involved in the church as a deacon as well as a member of the Gideon Bible Society. He was also recognized by the Billy Graham Foundation for his role as Executive Chairman of the film “Joni.”
He received great enjoyment watching and playing golf and curling over the years.
David will be sadly missed by his wife, Reta (Jamieson) Harrison; daughters, Charlene (Bill) MacDonald, Jocelyn (Donnie) King both of Port Hawkesbury, NS; sons, Brian (Wanda), Quesnel, BC, Bruce, Lower Maccan, NS; 2 step-daughters, Donna (Paul) Tracy, Diane Lovely (MacDunnet) and step-son, Burton (Kathy) Jamieson; 11 grandchildren, David, Brian, Virginia, Jillian, Nicholas, Alicia, Justin, Michael, Lynn, Courtney, and Bethany; 12 great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; David was also survived by his sisters, Laura Holden, Lower Maccan, Joyce Terrio, Joggins, Erma (Mike) Lutch, Windsor, ON; sisters-in-law; Hope Harrison, River Hebert, Effie Harrison-Jobsey, Morinville, AB; brother-in-Law; Angus Emslie, Lower Maccan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Elsie (Kinnear) Harrison; brothers, Donald and Alastair and sister; Blanche (Harrison) Emslie, brother-in-law; Don Holden, Keith Holden and Ron Terrio.
His remains are resting in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting hours on Tuesday, June 4th, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. from the Amherst Wesleyan Church, 50 Cornwall Ave., Amherst with Rev. Raymond Fancy officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Maccan Cemetery.
