With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ian MacIntyre, 74, of Bras d’Or, on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the elder son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Fyfe) MacIntyre.
A graduate of St. FX University, Ian began his teaching career in Sydney Mines. He later became a guidance counsellor in Cape Breton County and retired from Dr. T.L. Sullivan Junior High in 1995.
Ian was a faithful member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d’Or.
He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and thoroughly enjoyed his trips to South Bend to see his beloved Irish win their home games. What a thrill it was for him to chat with the legendary Rudy!
Ian will be fondly remembered as a true gentleman with a wonderfully dry sense of humour, a man of few words, wisely spoken.
Ian is survived by his wife, Ann Marie (MacLellan) MacIntyre; children, Paul (Alexandra), Calgary, Glen (Wendy), Pennsylvania, Jennifer (Ryan) Wiley, Burlington; granddaughters, Makayla, Amanda, Natasha and Josie; brother, Liam (Mary Linda).Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church on Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Reception to follow at Georges River Fire Hall.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Seniors’ Day Program at Harbour View Hospital, the Alzheimer's Society, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
