Quinn Kavanaugh
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear, wonderful and deeply loved son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, at the age of 32.
Quinn graduated from Breton Education Centre, Cape Breton University and the University of Maine at Fort Kent. After substitute teaching in Halifax, he went out west to begin a new career. He attended the Marconi Campus of the N.S. Community College and successfully achieved his Red Seal as a pipefitter.
He loved the community of New Waterford and started planning early for securing his future in town by acquiring a number of rental properties.
Quinn had a great love for his family. Regardless of where he was, hardly a day passed when there were not several text messages and extended phone calls to his parents. He always encouraged and enjoyed family get-togethers, particularly if the menu included Rockett’s lobsters.
Throughout his life, Quinn made countless friends who thoroughly enjoyed his company and, who in return, benefited from his loyalty, devotion and kindness. He greeted everyone with true warmth and an infectious smile.
Perhaps Quinn is best described by his close friend, Patrick Roach, who recently wrote, "Quinn was truly a unique individual. His comedic charm made him loved by all who met him. He had more friends than anyone I know. My life, as well as so many others, will never be the same without him. Quinn was my brother."
Quinn is survived by his parents, Jim and Mary (McIsaac) Kavanaugh; his sister, Kim (Glen) Matheson and his niece, Kendra. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Quinn was predeceased by his grandparents, Jimmy and Marie (Gatto) Kavanaugh and Ronnie and Violet (Quinn) McIsaac.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass celebrating Quinn’s life will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Following mass, a reception will be held at the KOC hall on Plummer Avenue.
Organ and tissue donation has taken place and will benefit a number of transplant recipients.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Quinn’s memory may be made to the RTO Legacy Foundation, which provides medical treatment and educational training for sick and challenged children or to a charity of one’s choice.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
