Lorna Jean Knox (nee Watts)

Lorna passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the age of 88 years at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
She was married to Thompson “Tommy” Knox for 65 years and is mother to George (Cathy), Cable Head; Linda, Courtney, B.C.; William “Billy” (Elizabeth), Vernon, B.C.; Karen (Ken Huie), Grass Valley, California; Bethany Jean, Nine Mile Creek; Edwin (Alice), Pincher Creek, AB; Dianne (John Sylvester), Greenvale; Sherilyn (Naomi), Victoria, B.C. Predeceased by daughter Mary Elizabeth.
Daughter of the late George and Myrtle (Crockett) Watts. Survived by sister Mary Watts, Toronto. Grandmother of Laura Knox-Clingerman, Erin Knox-Van Lier, Mathew Applejohn, Jamie Knox, Bethany and Georgie Knox, Keturah and Robin Bouchard, Jesse, Melissa and Sean Jager, Meghan and Claire Knox, Katelyn, Alissa and Eric Sylvester and nine great-grandchildren.
Lorna was born on January 2, 1925, in York. She received her teaching diploma at age 16 from Prince of Wales College. She worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for four years until marrying Tommy Knox in 1947 when she began her life as a devoted mother of nine. She enjoyed walking, cycling, bird watching, skating and swimming and instilled her love of nature in her children. She also enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, and she kept a daily journal from the age of 14. She had fond memories of her many bus tours and trips to visit her children in western Canada and California.
Lorna was involved in the community as a member of the Home and School Association and the Natural History Society. Music held a special place in her life. She was involved with the Queens County Music Festival Association to which she donated two awards annually. In 2011, she was honoured as a lifetime member of the Park Royal UCW.
Her family would like to thank the staff of QEH Unit 8, the palliative care team, as well as all of the physicians involved in her exceptional care while in the hospital. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and relatives.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Wednesday, June 12, 2013, from Park Royal United Church at 11 a.m. Interment in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Park Royal United Church or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
