It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Bernadette Sturgess on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Mose and Mary (Fraser) Chiasson.
She was a devoted catholic and a member of St. Theresa’s parish, Sydney. She enjoyed making crafts and gardening, she was very proud of growing her sunflowers.
Bernadette attended St. Martha’s Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1970. She was employed at the IWK in the early 1970s then returned home to raise a family.
Bernadette is survived by her husband, Glenn Sturgess; sons, Anthony Fraser (Rose Koziel), Paul Christian; brothers, John Roland (Gayle) Chiasson, Summerside, P.E.I., Phonse Gerard (Eileen) Chiasson, Sydney; sister-in-law, Patsy Tyne, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place 10 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2013, at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
