Ruth Gillis
GILLIS, RUTH LOUISE (ALLEN) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth L. (Allen) Gillis, on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in Oromocto Public Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born October 6, 1940 in Lower Jemseg, Queens County, NB, to the late Joe and Frances (Knight) Allen. Ruth is survived by a daughter Betty-Lou Gillis and a son Alan (Marci) Gillis. She felt very blessed to have four granddaughters and two grandsons. She will be sadly missed by three brothers; Lloyd (Lyla) Gillis, Ralph Gillis and Robert (Judy) Gillis, three sisters; Joan Lanz (Eugene), Mary Nicholson and Shirley Marche (Jerry), along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and Dale Gillis, father of her children. Predeceased by her parents an infant twin sister, her sister Joyce Lord and brother-in-law Phil Lord. Ruth worked for the Cumberland Regional Hospital Laundry Society, Cumberland BC for a number of years prior to returning to NB. Sincere thanks to all the specialist, doctors, technicians, DECH Oncology Department, Extra Mural, Home care workers, OPH Palliative Care Unit, family and friends for the time and effort spent bettering my quality of life. “I did it my way”. Ruth was a woman of strong will and compassion.
In respect with her wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation. A private ceremony will take place at Saint James Anglican Church Cemetery, Lower Jemseg, NB at a later date. Don’t cry I have fought my final fight with complete fulfillment. Keep the wood box full and don’t grow anything that you can’t eat.
