On Saturday, June 8, 2013 we lost our beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle, Blair Gordon Buchanan, who passed away suddenly at Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, Newfoundland.
Born on Oct. 26, 1960 he was the son of Catherine 'Deats' (Burke) and the late Gordon 'Gordie' Buchanan of Gardiner Mines, N.S.
Blair is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl (McIntyre) and his daughter, Chantel (Adam), Halifax, who meant the world to him and were at his bedside when he passed away. Blair was the center of their lives and he loved them dearly.
Besides his mother, Blair leaves behind his sisters, Karen (Kevin) Black, Sydney River; Paula (John) Weatherby, Marion Bridge; Kelly (Troy) Baldwin, River Ryan and his brother, Colin (Diane), Gardiner Mines. Blair was loved by his family and he will be sorely missed. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Melissa and Jeremy Buchanan, Bethany and Cale Buchanan and his twin nieces, Kayla and Breanna Baldwin, all of whom truly loved their uncle and were always thrilled to hear from him or that he was coming to visit. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rosemary Buchanan, Brantford.
Blair is also survived by his extended family, his mother and father-in-law, Cecilia and Joseph (Sonny) McIntyre of Dominion; his sisters-in-law, Gail (Glenn), Helen (Wes), Lori (Bob), Karen (Kevin) and brothers-in-law, Paul, Ross (Sherri) and Sean (Tanya).
Blair was predeceased by his father, Gordon; his brother, Darren; his grandparents, Barney and Melvina (Kelly) Burke and Thomas and Margaret (McNeil) Buchanan. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Gary.
Blair was employed with Cape Breton Development Corporation for 16 years leaving to work for Exxon Mobil where he was employed at their Goldboro site and resided in Antigonish. Blair then moved to St John's, NFLD where he was presently employed with Exxon Mobil as a Mechanical Advisor.
Blair was a very driven person who was always willing to help anyone with any job, big or small. Blair loved all sports especially hockey and baseball where his infectious personality enabled him to make many lasting friendships. He also looked forward to his many fishing trips with his Dad. He had a special interest for drag racing which he loved to do with his brother, Colin and his late brother, Darren.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 13th from 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Dan Boudreau is on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene's Church, Dominion, followed by interment at St James Parish Cemetery, Gardiner Mines. Reception to follow in St. Eugene's Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
