Shirley Elizabeth Zwicker - 73, formerly of Coldbrook and Kentville, Kings County, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 in Shannex - Blomidon Court, Greenwich. Born in Middlewood, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Blanche (Johnson) Zwicker. She had been employed as a bookkeeper with the Metropolitan Store in Kentville and then worked as a C.N.A in Nova Scotia and Ontario. She also served with the Regular Army Medical Corps for three years. She was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Shirley was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Society at Bethany Memorial Baptist Church and also gave the name Bethany’s Active Seniors to the monthly luncheon seniors group. She was also a member of the Ladies Guild at St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, where she was a former Sunday school secretary and envelope secretary. She was a compassionate friend and enjoyed the company of her friends. She is survived by two sisters, Grace McCarthy and June Stewart, both of Hebb’s Cross; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Emma Oickle. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, The Reverend Cathy Pharo officiating. Burial took place in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, Parish of St. James. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Shirley’s family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Shannex - Blomidon Court whose compassion and care for Shirley during her two year stay there went above and beyond.
