Mom loved music and in particular the piano. She played piano and sang for many of their get-togethers with friends. Dad would say “Swiftly, hit the ivories” and they would be off on a sing song. Mom was born April 23, 1925 at their family homestead. She attended school at Harold and Vanguard. She married Jack Rear, July 6, 1945 and they farmed together for 30 years. They enjoyed 47 years together gardening, golfing, hunting, fishing, curling and dancing. She was an active participant in most activities in Vanguard. Mom loved living in Vanguard. She cherished all her long time friends from there; a lifetime of friendships. She enjoyed eight winters in Arizona. They loved their time in Mesa, spent socializing, golfing and dancing. The winters spent in Vanguard she cheered on her grandson Craig’s hockey games and granddaughter Jenna’s ringette. Mom moved to Swift Current in 2002. She enjoyed making new friends and all that city life had to offer. She loved playing cards, which she did many times a week. She was an avid book reader and kept meticulous lists of all the books she had read. She was a cancer survivor and attended the Relay for Life every year. Mom’s final three weeks of life were spent in the Swift Current Care Centre. She and her family appreciated the excellent care she received while there. A private graveside service will take place. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Helen’s name may be made to the Vanguard and District Recreation Board. To sign the family book of condolences visit parksidefuneralhome.com
