It is with sadness we announce the passing of John Alexander 'Alex' Fougere, 73, of Scotchtown, formerly of Brown's Road, New Victoria on July 4, 2013 at New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Simon James and Catherine Anne (McIsaac) Fougere. Alex worked security at Devco for several years before his retirement in 1994. He was an avid sportsfan who enjoyed watching baseball and hockey.
Surviving are his common-law wife Kim (Bachanski) Fougere; daughters Michelle (Peter) Leighton, Ontario, Sherri Lynn Fougere, Bridgeport, Catherine Mae Fougere, Scotchtown; sons Simon Neil Fougere (Melinda Crocker), Sydney, Keith Alexander Fougere (Darlene Chamberlain), Bridgeport; brother Mickey (Ann) Fougere, New Waterford; sisters Rose Warren, Glace Bay, Rita, Boston; wife Barbara (MacLean) Fougere, Sydney; grandchildren, Melvin, Joey, and Justin; best buddy and companion, his dog, Rolo.
Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by brothers Murdock, Henry, Ernest, and Peter; sisters Alice and Elsie.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Tuesday, July 9 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford, immediately following the funeral mass.
