Albertha Grace Hatfileld

Hatfield, Albertha Grace (Lavers), 88, Truro, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Wynn Park Villa Truro, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Springhill she was the daughter of the late Joseph Leander Maurice and Grace Winifred (Burns) Lavers. Albertha Bertie” delighted in memories of growing up on a dairy farm with her 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Her mother instilled in the family the importance of faith in God and devotion to family. Bertie stayed true to these values throughout her own life. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church Truro and the UCW, and enjoyed the good friendship and fellowship she shared at St. Andrew’s. She was happily married to Walter for 51 years. Together they reared 10 children. Gareth (Doreen), Haida Gwaii, BC; Charles (Colleen), Belleville and Truro; Alan (Mary), Pictou Landing; Mary (Peter) Logan, Truro; John Donald (Diane), Hilden; David (Nancy), Truro; Elizabeth (Delbert) Mosher, Truro; Ralph (Richard), New Glasgow; Donna Marie (Cyril) MacGillivray, Truro. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter in 1992, and an infant son Kenneth Wayne. Bertie saw her greatest contribution as wife and mother, bringing music and homemade foods to home life. She reared her children, at times her grandchildren, and spent 13 happy years helping to parent her 4 great-granddaughters, Edin Maria, Emma, Abigail and Cyra. They brought special joy to her life and shared with her a love of music and living faith. Private funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, in St. Andrew’s United Church Chapel Truro, Rev. Boyd Vincent officiating. Interment to follow in Robie Street Cemetery Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Albertha’s memory may be made to the Alzheimers Society or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrust to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro.
