With heavy hearts and warm memories, we announce the passing of Dorothy Poirier on Sunday, July 7, 2013, in Edmonton, Alta.
Born in Sydney, N.S., Dorothy grew up on Gatacre Street before moving to St. Hubert, Que., where she taught on the air force base before meeting her husband, Hector. They travelled back to Edmonton, where they raised five daughters and continued teaching careers with the Edmonton Catholic School Board. She was a dedicated teacher with adoring students from Sydney to Edmonton.
She was predeceased by her mother Stella, her father Harold, and her son-in-law Kent Williamson.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years Hectorl five daughters, Carmen, Nancy, Suzanne, Wendy (Mark) and Paulette; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Alexa, Joel, Ty, Adjani, Emani and Luc; brother, Fred (Mila) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Edmonton on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Howard & McBride Westlawn Chapel, 16310 Stony Plain Rd., Edmonton. A celebration of her life is being planned in Sydney, N.S., for a later date.
