Annie Jane Toney, 64, We’koqma'q First Nation, died peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at her home.
She was born in Chapel Island, the daughter of the late Bridget and John (Paul) Basque. Annie worked at various jobs through the years. She was a co-founder of the annual St. Anne de Beaupré Pilgrimage. One of her best hobbies was bingo. Her bingo pals will surely miss her. She loved to travel to the states. Annie had a passion for gardening, every plant and flower had a story.
She is survived by her loving husband, Benedict; daughters, Darla Bernard (John), Natalie Googoo, Patricia Peters (Stewart), all of We'koqma'q; stepdaughter, Donna Toney, Mass.; sons, Adrian Googoo (Jennifer), We'koqma'q; Terry (Arlene) Googoo, Membertou; sisters, Anita (Tom) Basque, Sandra (Kevin) Johnson, Belinda (Henry) Googoo, all of Chapel Island; Julianna (Alan) Bernard, We'koqma'q; brothers, Norman (Mary Anne), James (Jenny), Kenny (Dianne), Roger, Lloyd, all of Chapel Island; Jerome (Cynthia), Montreal; 23 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Sheldon Googoo; stepson, Ryan Toney; brother, Michael Basque; sister, Nancy Basque.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Sunday at the family residence, 349 Reservation Rd., We’koqma'q. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, from Blessed Kateri Parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma'q, with Fr. Danny MacLennan officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
