It is with sadness we announce the passing of Maynard Joseph Barry, 81, on July 15, 2013, at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John Henry Barry and Sarah Jane Barry (Nearing).
Maynard worked at Rudolph Grocery Store for 18 years and 30 years as a driver salesman for Cape Breton Dairyman’s and the Scotsburn Dairy, before his retirement in 1993. Maynard’s favourite hobby was woodworking as he spent tireless hours keeping his family property beautiful.
Surviving are his wife, Marie (Dornig); sons, Wayne (Kim), Berwick, Glenn ( Cassilda), River Ryan, Gray (Ann Marie), Westmount, Darryl, Fort McMurray; daughters, Lynn ( Gerard), New Waterford, Rhonda (Rob) ,New Waterford, Marie (Duncan), Cape North, Gail , New Waterford; brothers, Jim , Mike and Will; sisters, Martha, Vange and Eleanor; grandchildren, Allan, Maria, Breanne, Mathew, John, Craig, Stephen, Patrick, Laurette, Joey, Stephanie, Alexander, Coady, Cole, Cooper, Aimee, Justin, Tyler and Logan; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Mathew, Jack, Ethan and Harper. Special thanks to niece Martha Ropek who was so kind to him.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Theresa, Evelyn and Margaret and brother, Gray.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A private funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, River Ryan.
Thank you to doctors and staff of Coronary Care Unit and 4A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Special thank you to the nurses at the New Waterford Hospital who treated Maynard and all his family with respect and kindness.
