He was pre-deceased by his parents Phidime Peltier (1951), Emelia Peltier McDade (1982), brother Dona (1933), sister Muriel Duthie (1959), his first wife Patricia (1968), step-father John McDade (1988), grandson Corey Anhorn (2001) and son-in-law Garry Opheim (2006). He grew up on the family homestead near Roseray, Sk. He attended school at Panorama, Hazlet and graduated from Pennant High School. He married Irene Patricia (Pat) Power in 1945 and in 1951 they rented, and then bought Panorama Farm from the Dahl family where they raised their family. During this time Maurice was active in the community serving on the boards of the Hazlet Credit Union, Roserary Wheat Pool, Cabri Co-Op Association and Cabri Union Hospital. Maurice also sold SGI Insurance for a number of years, attended sporting and community events, and took an active interest in the politics of the time. Besides the grain farming operation he bred Charolais cattle and belonged to the Canadian Charolais Association. Following Pat’s death in 1968 Maurice remained on the farm until marrying Agnes Peterson McTaggart in 1971 and moved to Gull Lake. They had a busy life with family, travel, and friends. He continued to farm with his sons and took an active interest in the farming operation. During the busy harvest season Maurice and Agnes would stay out in the 2-room cook shack on the Panorama farm. As Maurice relinquished more of the work to his sons his energy turned towards his garden – saskatoons, strawberries, vegetables, and pumpkins for all. He loved playing drums and played with local orchestras at community dances all his life. Maurice enjoyed hunting and fishing and in later years bowling, woodworking and wine making. He was active in the community and barbequed large quantities of meat for various events. Maurice participated in skeet shooting, curling, golfing and driving his antique Massey Furgeson Tractor in parades while wearing his striped engineering hat and bib overalls. Maurice remained independent until August 2012 when he moved to an assisted living facility in Gull Lake. Maurice was reunited with Agnes in the Gull Lake Regional Health Care Centre on his last birthday, April 22. On June 6th he fell and broke his hip and collarbone. Maurice never fully recovered his strength and passed away July 16, 2013 at the Health Care Centre in Gull Lake. Maurice always felt blessed that he was able to have lived such a full and rewarding life. Donations in his memory may be made to the Gull Lake Special Care Centre or the Gull Lake Recreation Complex. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. For further information or to sign the family book of condolence visit Parksidefuneralhome.com.
